Learning at Home
Brentwood College is committed to providing an inclusive, high-quality curriculum to support all students in accessing education, whether they are attending college or, in rare circumstances, learning from home.
Our approach ensures that every young person, their families, and carers feel supported. The focus remains on realistic functional skills that are meaningful and relevant. Where necessary, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) will be adapted to reflect home-based opportunities for literacy, numeracy, communication, health, physical development, and life skills. We will always stay connected through ClassDojo, email, and telephone to maintain strong communication and support.
A combination of the following approaches will be used to teach and support students, tailored to their individual needs:
- Recorded teaching and PowerPoint resources.
- Specialist videos to support communication and sensory regulation needs.
- Online resources, such as Boardmaker 7, Oak National Academy, TwinklGo, and MyMaths.
- Personalised work packs.
- Loaning of specialist equipment and resources where required.
- Live online lessons and social interaction opportunities.
Our Speech and Language Therapy Team will continue to provide targeted support through recorded sessions, resources, or direct communication such as phone calls, as appropriate.
For students facing barriers to accessing online resources at home, we take the following steps:
- Loaning laptops or tablets where possible to ensure access to digital learning.
- Providing support for internet connectivity issues.
- Encouraging parents and carers to contact tutors if they require assistance with devices or other resources.
This approach reflects our commitment to ensuring all students can engage meaningfully in their education, whether on-site or during periods of home learning, while maintaining a focus on inclusion and individual needs.
