Community Cafés

Our community cafés provide valuable real-life employability opportunities for our Post-19 college students, helping them to develop confidence, independence, communication, and workplace skills within supportive community settings.

Our Wednesday Café, held at St Martin’s Church Hall in Sale, is run by our Year 2 college students. This café provides students with the opportunity to develop foundational workplace and customer service skills in a real-life environment. Students take part in a range of roles including serving customers, preparing drinks, working in the kitchen, handling simple transactions, and maintaining the café environment. Through these experiences, students develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and preparation for adulthood skills.

Our Friday Advanced Skills Café, based at St Joseph’s Parish Centre in Sale, is designed for our Year 3 students who are preparing for future employment and greater independence. This café environment is larger and busier, allowing students to further develop their confidence, adaptability, and employability skills within a more demanding workplace setting. Students are encouraged to work with increasing independence, take responsibility within their roles, and support one another as part of a team.

Both cafés are an important part of our Preparation for Adulthood curriculum and provide meaningful opportunities for students to apply their learning within the local community. We are incredibly proud of the progress our students make and the welcoming environments they create for customers each week.
